How to brush your teeth

Dear Mom and Dad:

We had a guest teacher read to us today! Ask me to tell you what language he read in. We are preparing our celebration for Carnivale and part of this is listening to French and learning about French culture. Tomorrow will be our Carnivale celebration outside. Please make sure that I have snow pants, gloves, boots, hats, scarves etc.

In the afternoon we had to write “how to brush your teeth” for instructions for an Alien who is visiting earth. Afterwards, Mrs. McEvoy acted out some of them and it was so funny because most of us forgot to write detailed instructions. For example she read:
1.    Get toothbrush and tootpaste
2.    Put on toothbrush (so she put the toothpast tube on top of the tootbrush)
3.    Get the tap going (she started tap dancing while holding the toothbrush)

We talked about the acronym S.A.D. and that all instructional writing follows.

S = sequence word (First, then, next, finally)
A= action word (get, squeeze, put, wash)
D = detail word (the toothbrush, the toothpaste, face with water)

We wrote detailed instructions as a triad on “How to brush our teeth”

Question of the day: Here’s a challenge, today during dinner give your parents instructions on how to eat their food. (Parents please, demonstrate EXACTLY what your child tells you). Post on the blog how it went!

Love,
The Rainbow Triad

Housekeeping:

During the next couple of weeks we will be painting using acrylic paint. This paint will NOT come off your child’s clothing. We will try to ensure the all students are using the paint cautiously but accidents to happen. Please send your child with a paint shirt or old clothes that can withstand paint stain for next week. It could be an old large t-shirt, apron etc.

- If you are interested in bringing valentine’s cards for your child’s class, we will be handing them out on Wednesday February 11. We would recommend you write just “From: (your child’s name)” instead of writing all the names of each student. This will make it easier for them to hand it out to students. Please note that bringing cards is optional! We will be handing out cards separately per class so brining enough cards for everyone in your child’s class would be recommended. Thank you!

Mrs. Ly = 21 students
Ms. Deobald = 19 students
Mrs. McEvoy = 22 students

Mrs. Ly’s fieldtrip forms for Ann & Sandy Cross have been sent home today. Please read over all of the information, sign and date, and return it to school with your child. Our fieldtrip is on Monday February 23.

  1. Morgan gave directions to her dad about how to load the dishwasher (we had already eaten dinner). Morgan learned that her dad could not assume anything. She needed to be very specific. We had one spill because she forgot to tell dad to empty the cup before putting it in the dishwasher!
