CAFE

Dear Mom and Dad:

Today Mr. Link introduced our CAFÉ board. CAFE stands for, Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding vocabulary. We added some strategies under Comprehension and Accuracy.

Comprehension:
Check for understanding
Back up and Reread

Accuracy:
Cross Checking (Peeking poodle): Look at the words and look at the pictures, does it make sense, does it sound right?

We listened to a story called “Too many toys” by David Shannon and Mr. Link showed us how we can use these strategies to become better readers. Ask me to explain these strategies and also how I can apply these strategies during writing. I will be referring to this board often as I will be able to identify which specific strategy I am working on.

Ask me to share with you what we did in math. We continue to work on our number sense in our different math groups.

We practiced standing in the right order today for our Christmas concert and practiced singing our songs. We can’t wait for you to listen to us. We sound lovely! Please read the housekeeping message below so I can practice my songs at home.

In the afternoon we talked about rights and responsibilities and the importance of having them. We thought about what the rights and responsibilities of our citizens of rainbow city would be. For this task, I can explain a right and responsibility and tell you why it is important.

Question of the day: What 3 songs are we singing on Wednesday at the Christmas concert?

Love,
The Rainbow Triad

Housekeeping:

This Wednesday Dec 10 is our singing performance at the Christmas concert. Our  class performance is the second set in the program and will start at 6:30pm. Please take a moment to visit Ms. Jackson’s blog and click on the link to the songs that we are singing. I can practice these songs at home.

Students will meet in their classrooms at 6:15pm so that we can get into our line order. Parents, please go straight to the gym to find a seat. After our performance, families are welcome to go to a classroom to do a Christmas craft. The evening ends at 7:30pm.

Please have a conversation with your child about being responsible for their own clothing items. We now have a LOST and FOUND bin in our classroom which contains 3 snowpants, water bottles and mitts and have not been claimed. The school lost and found is overflowing, if your child is missing any items please remind them to visit the lost and found. Items will be donated on the last day before christmas break.
