Dear Mom and Dad:
Sorry there was no post yesterday! Here is an update on what
we have been working on.
Yesterday we had a special guest come to our classroom. It
was Mrs. Gates’ father in law and he is an expert in mining. After learning
about the resources and occupations of Nova Scotia, we were interested to find
out more about coal mining. Ask me to tell you some of the interesting facts I
learned.
We also took a closer look at seeds. We drew a detailed
picture of our seeds by using our observation skills and magnifying glasses. We
then made predictions of what we think our seeds will grow into.
Today we got into groups and started our animal scripts for
our public announcement commercial. Ask me to tell you what animal I have been
investigating and who my partner is.
We continue to work on our volleyball skills today. Ask me
to show you the correct position to bump a volleyball.
We worked in groups at the end of the day to come up with 5
different items for our group to test if it will float or sink. Ask me to tell
you what 5 items my group came up with.
Question of the day: Post on the blog what you think your
seed will grow into?
Love,
The Rainbow Triad
Housekeeping:
The Rainbow Triad is excited to be
taking part in the David Suzuki Foundation’s 30x30 Nature Challenge this year!
Over the last decade, researchers have documented what most of us know
intuitively: nature is good for our health and well being. Being regularly immersed
in a natural setting, like a park, field or forest can reduce stress and
symptoms of attention-deficit disorders while boosting immunity, energy levels
and creativity. The message is clear—kids need nature! During the month of May,
we’re joining Canadians coast to coast in spending 30 minutes in nature every
day for 30 days.
You can help by making sure your
child comes dressed for the outdoors each day. This might require sunscreen,
hats, or raincoats—we’ll try to get out no matter the weather. And why not join
the 30x30 Nature Challenge as a family? Spending time outside together is good
for everyone, not to mention lots of fun.
You can sign up at www.davidsuzuki.org/30x30. Participants will receive simple ideas for incorporating green
time into their busy schedules.
