Dear Mom and Dad:
We had a great first day back! We got right into the flow of things and started the morning with Daily 5. Our class is getting much better with remembering what our jobs are during daily 5.
We have a new student teacher in our triad. Her name is Mrs. Catsorellis and she is a first year student from the University of Calgary. We love having student teachers as we help them learn what it takes to become a teacher and they also get to work with students in small groups.
In the afternoon we had lots of discussion around what it means to be a leader. We played a game where there was a detective and they had to guess who the leader was. The leader would make up some patterns using their hands and the rest of the class would have to copy the leader. The detective then comes in and tries to guess who the leader was. Have a discussion with me of what it means to be a good leader and what it means to work well in a team. Our teachers told us that it is tricky to be a good leader and even adults would agree!
At the end of the day we worked in groups to draw a rainbow. Each group received a bag with supplies. It wasn't long until we realized that some bags had paper, and some and none. Some bags had only purple and orange crayons and some bags only had green and red. Eventually we realized that we need to work together and share the materials! It's easy for us to talk about what it means to work as a community but it's harder to show it through our actions. Today we definitely were able to "practice what we preach!" Hooray!
We read a book called "The Crayon Box That Talked". Ask me to tell you what this book was about.
Question of the day: Post on the blog something you learned about community building today. It could be what you learned after listening to the story "The Crayon Box That Talked", or from the game we played.
Love,
The Rainbow Triad
Once the colours got together they liked how they all made a difference and coloured a nice picture
ReplyDeleteLexi says that she learned that we should all include each other and work together to build a community.
DeleteJack: To not be mean to others...we had to share the different colors to make the rainbow work...the colors in the box had to work together to make other colors because he didn't have all the colors in the box.
ReplyDeleteI learned that if you have lots of something when you only need one you can give it to people that need one. If I have 10 pieces of paper and another person has none I can give them paper and if lots of people don't have any, I can just keep one and give the rest away so everybody has what they need.
ReplyDeleteOwen E - never be bossy, listen to each other, and work together.
ReplyDeleteSiera - the rainbow is a group of colours that put together a hard working group and everyone in my group did one thing and we made a success
ReplyDeleteYou need to give kindness to get kindness. From Abby.
ReplyDeleteDayna said she has learned how sharing and working together can give better results.
ReplyDeleteTori: "A bossy leader just tells people what to do and a good leader shows them what to do."
ReplyDeleteriley says a bossy leader is a bad leader.
ReplyDeletea good leader is a nice leader
