Celebrity Readers

Dear Mom and Dad:

We had some celebrity readers read to us today! We had Berniece Gowan, Michele Martin-
Bossley, a police constable and some of us listened to a story read by a student teacher Miss Jacky. Ask me to tell you what stories I heard today and what my favorite story was. I can color in 5 squares today for my reading today.
In the afternoon, we talked about what groups we belong to. We have been making connections to where we belong in the world. I can tell you that I am one person who belongs in a family and then a group. We will be talking more about how we are connected to certain communities and the world.

**Student’s in Mrs. Ly’s group and Ms. Deobald’s group did not get to exchange their home reading books. We will try to get through everyone tomorrow.

- Mrs. Ly is looking for a volunteer from her group who could help with our home reading program. This would require a couple of hours once a week to read with students and help them exchange their books. Please email lmnguyen@cbe.ab.ca if you are interested. Thank you so much!

Love,
The Rainbow Triad

Housekeeping:

Our READ-A-THON has been an outstanding success!  Students have met in book clubs, dropped everything and read and listened to a whole host of celebrity readers today.  We are most hopeful the conversations that have run rampant about books in the school this week have also been brought home to parents and that reading is now a focus of conversation throughout the whole community!

We are hoping to collect all the Read-a-thon funds by next Friday, November 14, 2014.  Please send in the funds students raised through their reading minutes next week so we can celebrate together - thank you!!

Tomorow is our Remembrance Day Assembly at 9am. Students will be receiving a poppy and it would great if you could send a small donation to go to the Poppy Fund. Students are welcom to wear their scouts, beavers etc uniforms on Friday.

We are going on a field trip to the Telus Sparks Centre on Wednesday November 19 for the entire school day. We will need volunteers, please let your child's teacher know if you would like to volunteer. We will be sending field trip forms next week with all of the information. Thank you very much! ** Mrs. Ly’s class need at least 1 more volunteer at the moment for this fieldtrip, if you would like to join us please e-mail lmnguyen@cbe.ab.ca. Thank you.

We will be starting our inquiry for building in a few weeks. We are looking for materials that students can experiment with. If you, or your neighbors have items such as: cereal boxes, paper towel rolls, coffee tins, pringle cans, cardboard etc. Anything that we can build with! We will be asking students to bring these items on the week of November 12. It would be great if you could start collecting now. Thank you!
