Dear Mom and Dad:
What an amazing treat we had today! We met a real author. Her name is Hazel Hutchins and we got to spend some time with her and learn about where her ideas come from and the process from beginning to end of writing a book and publishing it. Ask me to tell you something about Mrs. Hazel Hutchins. She is a very talented lady.
Today we shopped for some new books for our book bins. It is important for me to know how to pick good fit books. If I have a book in my bin that is not a good fit book and doesn't interest me, I will have a hard time keeping my stamina up. Right now as a class we are at 16 minutes of reading stamina. Our reading muscles are getting strong. Woo hoo!
In math, we learned a lot about problem solving and some strategies we can use. On Friday we worked on finding how many legs were in the napping house. After learning about some strategies, we went back into our math groups and applied the strategies to come up with a solution. I used pictures, numbers and words to show my thinking. We then drew our own families in our math journals using the learned strategies and came up with how many legs are in our own house.
We learned a new game in gym today. Ask me to tell you the rules.
Question of the day: There are 26 legs in a house. What could be a possibility of the animals and people that could live in this house? Show your thinking using words, pictures and words.
Love,
The Rainbow Triad

Photo day is tomorrow. Please return the photo forms back to school with your choice of pose and background. Not to worry if the form is not returned, your child will still get their picture taken.
Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately to go outside for gym tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteI have four dogs so that is 16 legs. Then there are four people in my house with 8 legs, so that is 24 legs. If I have my Grandma come over with her two legs, that is 26 legs all together.
Anya started with 3 dogs and 2 people. She then counted their legs with check marks. She got 18. She decided to add cats to her house. She got 22. So she added 2 other people. She got 26!!!
ReplyDeleteWe walked around the house then sat down and drew each family member, both siblings highchair, and his bed. Sam put one line for each leg for each person and item, then counted to make sure we had 26. Family -14 (cat) highchairs-8 bed-4 =26. Sam was very excited about meeting the author, came home and started his own pokemon story, then as he giggled told me she cant juggle...not sure why thats funny but he seems to think so :)
ReplyDeleteJeanne designed a house with 2 person (2+2), 2 dogs and a cat (4+4+4), a mouse and a flea (4+6) to get 26 legs. :)
