Artifacts from the Arctic

Dear Mom and Dad:

For poetry Tuesday, instead of reading a poem by someone, we actually wrote our own poems! Today we learned what an acrostic poem is. Today as a triad, we came up with a poem titled RAINBOW. Here is our poem:

Running for Terry Fox
Adding numbers in math
Inquiring about peace
Nice to new people
Body break outside
Open to tall
Winter celebration

I wrote a poem using my name. We learned that the words we chose should relate to what the title of the poem was. Ask me to tell you some of the things I wrote about myself. I could even write a poem using the name of someone in our family.

We had a special guest teacher come to our classroom to share some artifacts that she had from the Arctic! Mrs. Richardson is a grade 1, 2 teacher at Cranston and her father used to work in the Arctic and would bring home really neat artifacts from there. Ask me to tell you about what I saw. After her presentation, we sketched in our journals and wrote about what we learned.

We ended the day doing a guided drawing of a polar bear. Here is the link if I want to try it at home. Polar Bear Guided Drawing

Mrs. McEvoy’s class had music today. We continued with Mission Impossible today in gym with Mr. McDougal.

Question of the day: Post on the blog something you saw or learned from Mrs. Richardson today.

Love,
The Rainbow Triad

Housekeeping:

Fun lunch is on Wednesday Jan 28.

Words of the week!

Grade 1: help, here, jump, little, look

Grade 2: don't, fast, found, gave, goes

Please go over these words with me. I should be able to find these words in books and the environment and spell the words as well.

Dear Cranston Parents/Guardians

The question of whether Tobogganing/sledding is permitted on school grounds (CBE property) has been circulating lately with differing opinions and interpretations.
After contacting Risk Management, we now have confirmation that Tobogganing/sledding is on the list of “Prohibited Activities on CBE Property”.
In view of this, we respectfully ask for your cooperation in adhering to this safety policy.  Thanks.

Please direct all questions to the school’s administration.

  13. Jeanne said it was amazing to see the real whale back bones! She also saw snow goggles, huge gloves and a ulu knife which she thought was very cool! She also explained to us why the Inuit are liked to be called by Inuit instead of Eskimos.

  14. Mrs.Richardson brought in a back bone from a whale. It had a face in the middle, and it had a crack on the face.
