Dear Mom and Dad:
Mrs. McEvoy had a meeting today so we had a guest teacher. We added a new choice to our daily 5 literacy routine in the morning. It is "work on writing". During daily 5 I have a choice of read to self, read to someone, and now work on writing. Together with the class we did an anchor chart on work on writing to add to our bulletin. An anchor chart has our voice and it states what our job is during writing. Ask me to tell you what my job is during work on writing in Daily 5.
During read to self we practiced a couple of new strategies: jabber the reteller and skippy frog. Ask me to tell you what these strategies mean.
In math we created growing patterns and recorded our thinking in our math journals. Ask me to tell you what a growing pattern is and give you an example.
We read a couple of books about family and how our families are different and the same. We work hard on drawing a beautiful detailed picture of our families and did some writing to go with it.
We had dance this afternoon. I can show you some of my moves! Some of the steps are very tricky but what is important is I am trying my best! Even my teachers are finding them tricky but with practice we will get it :)
Question of the day: What is the student's job during "work on writing" and what is the teacher's job?
Love,
The Rainbow Triad
The teachers job is to work with students and the students job is to stand up and get their buckets quietly. - Aden
ReplyDeleteAccording to Tori her job during work on writing during Daily 5 is to read and write. The teachers job is to work with other students. Tori says "Skippy frog is when we skip a word then go back and check it. jabber the reteller is when you retell the story using your words" Tori says "a growing pattern is you start with one thing like a triangle, square, square then you have a triangle, square, square, square then you have a triangle, square, square, square, square. a growing pattern keeps getting bigger and bigger"
ReplyDeletesounds like everyone had a busy day :)

ReplyDeleteWow Rainbow Triad Great job remembering what your job is during daily 5. It is important that both students and teachers are doing their job. Teachers usually have a guided reading group or working with individual students. Everyone has a task. We are becoming a well oiled machine woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteTaylor says her job is to not talk and just focus on her writing, and also not to stare off into outer space. The teachers job is to read with students
ReplyDeleteThe teacher's job is to help students do things; such as, help them read and write. The students' job is to write or read or read to a buddy.
ReplyDeleteKaitlyn says her job is to not move to another spot and don't talk and don't yell.
ReplyDeleteCiara says the students job is to sit and work on writing, the teachers job, is to watch.
ReplyDeleteJack: The student's job is to work and do the stuff the teacher says. The teacher's job is to help the students, and to make sure they are doing the right stuff, and to teach the students how to do it.
